Five Tips Before Enrolling In Cosmetology School

With fall and back to school approaching (yikes!) we thought we would ask some of our instructors the best tips before you start cosmetology school and here’s what our instructors had to say…..

1 – Have a good support system (friends, family etc.  will help get you through. You need people who have your back!

2 – Know your “why”; why you started, why you want to be a part of this industry and write it down somewhere you can see everyday. Make it your lock screen on your phone, seeing it will remind you and revive your drive!

3 – Create good study habits for you. Not everyone can just take notes and that’s that. Doodle, write doen multiple times, or come up with a song to help you remember certain steps to a procedure. Make it fun and create a study group with your class !

4 – You can only control you, how you react to a situation is your power. There is always going to be that one student you may not get along with. Don’t let them steal your focus on the task at hand which is becoming a licensed professional!

5 – Be comfortable with not being perfect. When your born your not expected to walk at 1 week old or even 8 weeks are you? of course not 🙂 In foundations you are learning to walk in the world of cosmetology. You may stumble and even fall your first time , and the getting back up may be hard. But the more you get back up the better you get! when we fall and get back up is when we learn our greatest lessons.

At the end of the day, have an open mind and be teachable. Be open to how the instructor is teaching you that procedure. You are you are in school for a reason and that is to learn. It makes your instructor’s job (which at times can be stressful) a lot easier and it’s much appreciated.
