Let’s Meet 5 Influential LGBTQ+ Cosmetologists

The beauty industry is well known for its creativity, inclusivity, and innovation. Over the years, the LGBTQ+ community has played a significant role in shaping the industry’s evolution. From inventing new makeup and skincare techniques to designing iconic looks, they have made an indelible mark in the world of beauty. And now since it is PRIDE month, we wanted to introduce our readers to 5 of the most influential cosmetologists who also happen to be LGBTQ+.

First let’s meet Kevyn Aucoin.  Despite his passng in 2002, Kevyn remains one of the most influential makeup artists. He was known for his ability to transform anyone into a glamorous icon working with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Cher, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson. Kevyn actively used his platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. His legacy lives on through his eponymous makeup line and the Kevyn Aucoin Beauty Book, which remains a bible for makeup artists today.

Next up, let’s meet Pat McGrath. Pat is a LGBTQ+ British makeup artist who has been called the most influential beauty gurus. She has worked with countless fashion designers, including Versace, Prada, and Givenchy.  She has also launched her own successful makeup line, Pat McGrath Labs, which has become a cult favorite among beauty enthusiasts.

Up next let’s say hi Billy Brasfield. Commonly known as Billy B., he is a makeup artist who has worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and Mariah Carey. He is known for his bold, avant-garde looks and his ability to push the boundaries of traditional makeup techniques.

Fourth we have Rick Wellman. Rick is a hairstylist who has worked with some of the biggest names in fashion, including Calvin Klein and Versace. He is known for his innovative hairstyles and his ability to create looks that are both edgy and elegant. Rick is openly gay and has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights throughout his career. He has also been a vocal supporter of HIV/AIDS awareness and has raised thousands of dollars for various AIDS charities.

Finally let’s meet Troy Surratt. Troy is a makeup artist who has worked with some of the biggest names in fashion, including Anna Sui and Jason Wu. He is known for his ability to create natural, radiant looks that enhance a person’s natural beauty. Troy is openly gay and has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights throughout his career. His makeup line, Surratt Beauty, has become a favorite among beauty enthusiasts.

These five cosmetologists have made a significant impact on the beauty industry using their creativity, talent, and platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and raise awareness about important issues such as HIV/AIDS. Their legacy will inspire future generations of beauty professionals to push the boundaries of traditional beauty standards and embrace diversity and inclusivity in all forms.
