Meet Our New Cosmetology Instructors

March 21, 2022
At Elevate education is E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.  We are always looking for ways to build up and push our team to be the best they can be.  The moment we met our 2 new Cosmetology instructors, Abe and Meghan we knew right away we wanted them to join our family and help us shape the lives and careers of our future professionals.

Meghan helps mentor and guide our beginning evening cosmetology while Abe does the same for advanced cosmetology for our evening and weekend program.  Michelle, our admissions lead, spent a few moments with them recently and thought she would share a glimpse into who they each are:

Michelle: Why you choose the industry and then choose to teach in it?

Abe: I chose this industry because I loved making art. I couldn’t see myself doing a desk job for the rest of my life and I was drawn to the fast paced world of the beauty industry. I first began teaching behind the chair as a mentor to fresh apprentices and eventually began teaching full time as an educator in the beginning of 2021.

Meghan: It’s a funny story actually. My dad played a major role in my career because he is the one that suggested it to me. He was a professor at WCC and there was a Cosmetology program that they were starting. He told me about it and said he thought because of my art major background that I would be a good fit. Mind you I was a HUGE tomboy and never liked girly things , but 16 years later I’m still working in the industry and I wouldn’t change a minute of it. Thanks Dad ❤️

Michelle: What do you love most about the industry?

Abe: I love watching students grow and reshape this industry. There’s a place for everyone here.

Meghan: I love everything about this industry!! This industry has given me so much from personal growth to financial stability and the ability to touch peoples lives and make a positive impact on their life. This industry has given me confidence and a community where people who think differently can shine! The self expression in this industry where looking different isn’t bashed ,but applauded is life changing. Being a member of the LGBTQ community I have been able to help my clients who were trans bring their vision of self image to the surface. I was told by one client that I helped them actually want to look in the mirror and love the image reflected back to them. I have been a safe place for younger gay teens who would come in with their homophobic parents that didn’t want their daughter to have a “ boy” hair cut and or their son to “ look like a girl” and I would see their hopes and self esteem plummet. I would simply place my hand on their shoulder with my rainbow bracelet in full view the and give them a wink in the mirror and use the words “pixie cut “or “disconnected taper” .The parents are happy and I am able to create a place of acceptance while they are with me. That is only part of what has driven me as a behind he chair cosmetologist. The ability to impact someone’s life for the better has been a major driving force for me in this industry!

Michelle: Whats your favorite hobby?

Abe: My favorite hobby is indoor gardening and I have over 60 plants!

Meghan: Being outside in nature , drawing, and being and aunt 🙂

These two are already making an impact.  Be sure to come visit us soon and say hello to each to each of them…..
