Taking care of your summer skin

May 30, 2023

Summer is a time to soak up the sun and enjoy the warm weather, but it’s also a time to be mindful of your skin. The sun’s rays can be damaging to your skin, causing premature aging, sunburns, and even skin cancer. Here are some summer skin care tips to keep your skin healthy and glowing all season long.

1. Wear Sunscreen

One of the most important things you can do for your skin during the summer is to wear sunscreen. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and reapply every two hours. Make sure to apply sunscreen to all exposed areas, including your face, neck, and hands.

2. Stay Hydrated

The hot summer weather can cause your skin to become dehydrated, which can lead to dryness, itchiness, and irritation. To keep your skin hydrated, drink plenty of water throughout the day. You can also try using a hydrating mist or facial spray to keep your skin refreshed and moisturized.

3. Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliating your skin can help remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, which can improve the appearance of your skin and prevent breakouts. However, be careful not to over-exfoliate, as this can damage your skin. Aim to exfoliate once or twice a week, using a gentle scrub or exfoliating tool.

4. Protect Your Lips

Your lips are just as susceptible to sun damage as the rest of your skin, so make sure to protect them with a lip balm that contains SPF. You can also use a lip scrub to remove any dead skin and keep your lips smooth and hydrated.

5. Avoid Hot Showers

While a hot shower may feel great after a long day in the sun, it can actually be damaging to your skin. Hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and irritated. Instead, try taking a lukewarm shower and patting your skin dry with a soft towel.

6. Use Lightweight Products

During the summer, your skin may produce more oil than usual, so it’s important to use lightweight products that won’t clog your pores. Look for water-based moisturizers and serums that will hydrate your skin without weighing it down.

7. Protect Your Scalp

Your scalp is another area that can be susceptible to sun damage, especially if you have thinning hair or a bald spot. To protect your scalp, wear a hat or use a scalp sunscreen spray.

8. Eat a Healthy Diet

What you eat can also have an impact on the health of your skin. Eating a healthy diet that’s rich in fruits, vegetables, and antioxidants can help protect your skin from the inside out.

By following these summer skin care tips, you can keep your skin healthy and glowing all season long. Don’t forget to enjoy the sunshine, but always be mindful of protecting your skin from the harmful effects of the sun.
